Before I Sleep

Our great and gracious God,
We thank you that there is a cross in human history, a cross on which your beloved Son died, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.

We could not have made ourselves right with you;
We would have been eternally ruined, were it not for that cross.
We thank you for the blood that was shed,
The blood that cleanses from all sin.

But we thank you that there is more than a cross—

That there is an empty tomb,
And that on the third day our crucified Savior rose to life again,
Afterwards ascended into heaven,
And is now exalted at your right hand—
The One who is upon the throne!

With the angels and with the spirits of just men made perfect, and the whole church of Christ on earth,

We would worship him,
The Lamb who was slain,
But who now lives to pour out his blessing upon those for whom he died.

We pray, Lord Jesus, that this day you would be appropriately worshipped,
And we pray that from heaven,
Your dwelling place,
And from your almighty, gracious, heavenly throne,
It would please you to pour out saving blessing here and all around the world.

We ask it for your eternal glory,

For the glory of the Father who sent you,
And for the glory of the Spirit who brings these things to life to us and makes us yours.
