Teach Us to Be Silent

Dear God,

We come before you today in awe of your majesty and glory. You are the one who created the heavens and the earth, and your power and wisdom are beyond measure. We are grateful for your love and mercy, and for the gift of salvation that you have given us through Jesus Christ.

Lord, we know that you often display your character through silence. You are the one who spoke the universe into existence, yet you also reveal yourself through the still, small voice that speaks to our hearts. Help us to be still and listen for your voice, to wait patiently for your timing and direction, and to trust in your plan for our lives.

Teach us to be silent before others as well, to listen attentively to their needs and concerns, and to respond with compassion and grace. Help us to be slow to speak and quick to listen, to seek understanding rather than being quick to judge or criticize.

Lord, we confess that we often fail in this discipline of silence. We are quick to speak, slow to listen, and too often driven by our own desires and agendas. We ask for your forgiveness and for the strength to turn away from our own ways and seek your will instead.

Thank you, Lord, for your constant presence and guidance in our lives. We trust in your love and grace, and we ask for your help in becoming more like you, reflecting your character of silence and listening to others with compassion and humility.

In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
