Rise, O Lord, and Strengthen My Heart

As the Day Begins

Scripture: “Arise, Lord! Lift up Your hand, O God. Do not forget the helpless. Why does the wicked man revile God? Why does he say to himself, ‘He won’t call me to account’?” — Psalm 10:12–13 (NIV)

Devotional Meditation

There are moments when the world seems tilted in favor of the wicked. Injustice parades through the streets, corruption hides behind polished smiles, and the helpless appear forgotten. The psalmist’s cry, “Arise, Lord! Lift up Your hand,” resonates deeply in such times. It is not the cry of unbelief but of desperate faith—a faith that knows God is present, even when circumstances suggest otherwise. The psalmist acknowledges the tension: why does the wicked mock God, convinced there will be no reckoning? Yet in voicing this prayer, he affirms that the Lord sees, hears, and will indeed hold all people accountable.

In my own pastoral journey, I have sat with families who felt abandoned by the justice of this world. A grieving mother once asked me, “Does God see what they did to my son?” In that moment, I did not offer quick answers. Instead, I read from Psalm 10. The tears that followed were not because her pain disappeared but because she remembered she was not unseen. God’s justice may not always appear on our timetable, but His timing is never wrong. Faith anchors us not in the absence of trouble but in the assurance of His hand lifted high in defense of the helpless.

On a personal note, I recall a season when betrayal left me questioning God’s awareness of my struggle. I was tempted to echo the cynicism of verse 13—“He won’t call me to account.” But in prayer, I sensed the Spirit’s whisper reminding me that every injustice, every hidden wound, every unspoken prayer is recorded before the throne. The call of this psalm is not only to trust God’s judgment but to rest in His memory. He does not forget the helpless, and His justice is certain.

As we begin this day, let us not be overwhelmed by what we see around us. Instead, let us be strengthened by the assurance that our God reigns, and He will lift up His hand on behalf of those who trust Him.

Triune Prayer

Heavenly Father, I come before You with gratitude for a new day. Thank You for being the God who sees the helpless and does not turn away from their cries. I confess that sometimes I grow weary when injustice seems to prevail, and I wonder if You have noticed my struggles. Yet I believe Your Word, and I choose to trust that You are a righteous Judge who will not forget. Strengthen my heart today to walk in faith and remind me that You are my refuge and defender.

Lord Jesus, Son of God, I thank You that in Your own suffering and rejection, You bore the weight of injustice so that I might stand forgiven and free. You know betrayal, pain, and the mockery of the wicked. Help me to follow Your example, trusting the Father even when life feels unfair. Guard my heart from bitterness, and instead, teach me to respond with grace, courage, and steadfast hope. May Your cross remind me daily that victory belongs to You, not to the schemes of men.

Holy Spirit, guide me today in every thought and action. Fill me with discernment so I may recognize injustice without being consumed by it. Empower me to be an agent of compassion for the helpless and to live as a witness that God has not forgotten His people. When doubts arise, whisper truth to my soul; when I am tempted to despair, ignite hope within me. Walk beside me in every moment, and let my life reflect the justice, mercy, and love of Christ.

Thought for the Day

When injustice surrounds you, remember: God has not forgotten, and His hand is lifted to defend the helpless.

Thank you for beginning your day in God’s presence. May you walk forward with courage, hope, and the assurance that the Lord remembers, sees, and strengthens you.
