Open Your Mind

Loosen the bindings of your mind and by to take in the vastness of the earth.

Recall how the Scriptures say God formed it in timeless, empty darkness—”He suspends the earth over nothing” (Job 26:7)—and that he now controls and watches it omnisciently. “The world is mine,” he says, “and all that is in it” (Psalm 50:12).

He sees it all: every quiet meadow and proud mountain, every barren sandhill in the desert and every lightless valley on the ocean floor, every flower and sparrow—and every corner in every human heart.

Made infinitely rich by the presence of people made in God’s likeness, this world—God’s world and your world—is the arena in which a high drama of God’s purposes is being played out. Before your eyes every day you see parts of it unfold.

And in the end, you will see the climax: “He will judge the world in righteousness” (Psalm 9:8); “All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the Lord” (Psalm 22:27); “The earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea” (Habakkuk 2:14).
