When We Despise Our Lives

We readily accept God’s love for others but struggle with the belief that he loves us equally, radically, completely.

Blessed am I, Lord, because You are faithful to correct me. I will not despise the discipline of the Almighty.

I have despised my life at times. I have wanted people to leave me alone because I’ve felt my days had no meaning (Job 5:17; 7:16). Lord, You would not leave me here on this earth a single day that was not meant to have meaning. My life does have meaning. Please help me not to despise it or isolate others from it.

Lord God, help me to be obedient to You even in this difficult season. Your Word says that even in darkness light dawns for the upright, for the gracious and compassionate and righteous man (Ps. 112:4).
