Before I Sleep

Psalm 84:2 ‘My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.’

Our great God in heaven,
We thank you for the grace that has implanted in the hearts of your people a desire after you.
We hunger and thirst for you, the living God.

Our heart and flesh cry out for you.

We can never be satisfied unless you come
and we are privileged to have communion with you.
We pray that you will draw near to us,
and fulfill those desires that you yourself have implanted.

We pray that when we come to the Word

it will be your voice that we hear.
We pray the Spirit will take what is read and what is preached, and implant it deep within our hearts.
We pray that it will be a Word that brings us nearer to you.
We pray that it will also be a Word that you will use to bring those who are not yet saved,
to know you as their own God and Saviour.

We know that there are some here, and that there are multitudes throughout our world, who do not have this heart longing after you, and we pray for them.

We pray that you will open their eyes that they may see that
you are the altogether lovely One
—ever to be desired—
that their hearts may go out after you,
that they may long to be reconciled to you,
and will seek you and, in your mercy, find you.

We give you thanks for the privileges that are ours this day to serve you in different ways and we do commit to you the various activities of this day.

We thank you for the fellowship that we are able to enjoy together.

Through Jesus Christ we pray these things.
