As I Lie Down…

Meditation on 2 Peter 3:9:

As the day draws to a close, let us meditate on the words of 2 Peter 3:9, a verse that provides a glimpse into God’s unfathomable patience and mercy. Picture in your mind the image of a God who waits, not because He is slow or indifferent, but because of His immense love for each one of us.

Envision a patient Father, whose clock is not bound by earthly time, who waits so that none of us should be left behind, but that we all should have the chance to turn from our ways and seek His face. Reflect on how this divine patience touches your life. How has God waited for you? How has He shown you patience, even when you didn’t deserve it?

Ponder the call to repentance in this verse. Repentance – a turning away from the old and embracing the new in Christ. It’s not merely about feeling sorry, but about changing direction. What areas in your life require this change of direction? What old ways do you need to leave behind?

This verse is an invitation, a gentle, loving call to return to the Father who waits, who longs for your return more than anything. As we meditate on this divine patience and call to repentance, let us open our hearts to the transformative power of His love, resolving to live a life that reflects His mercy.

Evening Prayer:

Dear Lord,

As we lay down to rest after this day, we offer our gratitude for your enduring love and infinite patience. Your Word in 2 Peter 3:9 reminds us that you are not slow in keeping your promise but patient, desiring none of us to perish, but all to come to repentance.

Lord, help us to understand your divine timing, to appreciate your patience, and to respond to your merciful call for repentance. Forgive us for the times we’ve mistaken your patience for slowness. Instill in us the wisdom to recognize your gracious allowance of time as an opportunity for growth and redemption.

As we close this day, we bring before you the areas of our lives that require a change of direction. Grant us the courage to leave behind our old ways and to embrace the newness of life in you. As we drift into sleep, may your words continue to dwell in our hearts, shaping us, guiding us, transforming us.

Thank you, God, for your endless patience and unchanging love. Watch over us this night, and awaken us to a new day filled with fresh opportunities to seek your face and share your love with others.

In the name of Jesus, we pray,

Amen.
