“Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing!” — Psalm 100:2 (ESV)
The morning opens like a blank canvas, full of the promise of grace and the opportunity to start anew. Psalm 100:2 calls us to step into this day not with reluctance or weariness, but with gladness—to serve the Lord not because we must, but because we may. The very idea of serving the Creator of the universe is staggering in its meaning. Yet even more beautiful is how we are called to do it—with singing! This is not a service of burden or obligation, but a joyful participation in the divine rhythm of life. It’s worship in motion, a song that spills out into our words, deeds, and relationships.
This verse reminds us that the posture of our hearts matters. God is not simply concerned with what we do, but how we do it. Service offered without joy is an empty act, like a melody played without soul. When we offer our day to the Lord with delight, we enter into something far richer than duty—we enter into communion. And this joy is not rooted in the absence of struggle but in the presence of God. Gladness comes not because all is well, but because we know the One who holds all things together, including us.
To “come into His presence with singing” is to bring our whole selves into the presence of a holy God who delights in us. Whether we are changing diapers, managing a meeting, driving a truck, or leading a team, our day can be an offering of glad-hearted worship. Singing may be literal, or it may be symbolic—a spirit that is lifted, a soul that dances, even amid the mundane. What if every task today became an act of love? What if every interaction were a verse in your worship song? Psalm 100:2 doesn’t invite us to create joy but to carry it. For those who know the Lord, His presence is not far off. It is here, now. And in that presence, we sing.
A Prayer to Begin the Day:
To the Heavenly Father
Heavenly Father, as the sun rises and illuminates this new day, I thank You for the joy of knowing You. I approach You not merely with the weight of what must be done but with the privilege of being Yours. I confess that too often, I’ve allowed busyness or stress to rob my spirit of gladness. But Your Word says to serve You with joy. So this morning, I ask You to fill my heart with the kind of gladness that only comes from being in relationship with You. Let the work of my hands reflect a spirit of celebration and not mere survival. I want my actions today to be more than tasks—they should be offerings. Thank You for inviting me to serve You not as a servant fearful of a master but as a child delighting in a loving Father. I worship You this morning with gratitude and awe.
To the Son, Jesus Christ
Lord Jesus, I thank You for being the melody in my soul. You turned the sorrow of the cross into the song of salvation, and You showed us that true service is done in love. As I walk through today, help me remember that You walked this earth with joy, even knowing the suffering that lay ahead. You served with gladness, with tears and triumph, and You call me to do the same. When my soul begins to waver or my attitude begins to sour, remind me that You are with me, singing over me in love. Let me mirror that joy in how I speak, how I care, how I lead, and how I follow. In every act today, may I serve in Your name and for Your glory, Jesus. Let Your gladness be the song that lifts my spirit and blesses those around me.
To the Holy Spirit
Holy Spirit, I welcome You into every space I will enter today. Infuse my thoughts, my speech, and my spirit with Your gladness. Stir a song in my soul that cannot be silenced by circumstance. Even when my tasks are ordinary, let my attitude be extraordinary because of Your presence in me. Make me sensitive to Your leading, that I may see the needs of others and serve them joyfully. Remind me that gladness is not a fleeting emotion but a fruit of Your indwelling presence. Teach me to come into each moment singing, whether out loud or within my heart, so that my whole life becomes an act of worship. Thank You for empowering me to serve the Lord with joy—not through my strength but through Yours. Be my guide, my comfort, and my joy throughout this day.
Thought for the Day:
When we serve the Lord with gladness, even the smallest act becomes a sacred offering. Joy is not a result of perfect circumstances but of a heart centered in the presence of God. Carry His song into every part of your day.
