As the Day Begins
Scripture Reference:
“By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin.” – Hebrews 11:24–25 (NIV)
Devotional Meditation
Faith is not merely believing God exists; it is trusting Him enough to make costly decisions. Hebrews 11:24–25 draws us into the defining moment of Moses’ life—his conscious choice to reject the comforts and privileges of Pharaoh’s palace in favor of identifying with the suffering people of God. This was no impulsive decision. Moses understood that sin often offers fleeting pleasure but exacts an eternal cost. The palace promised him wealth, security, and status. Yet Moses’ eyes were fixed on something greater—God’s promise of deliverance and His covenant with Israel.
The challenge for us is that Pharaoh’s palace still stands in many forms today. It may not be made of stone and gold, but it offers the same seductive comforts: social approval, financial security at any cost, and moral compromise for personal gain. Choosing Christ over the palace may mean declining opportunities that would advance our careers but compromise our integrity. It may mean being misunderstood or even mocked. Like Moses, we are called to look beyond what is temporary and embrace the eternal rewards of obedience.
I remember counseling a young man in our congregation who was offered a job with an impressive salary. But there was a catch—the company’s practices were ethically questionable, and his role would involve direct participation in deceitful transactions. His peers told him to take it; after all, “everyone does it.” But he declined, choosing instead a position that paid less but allowed him to work with integrity. He told me later, “I’d rather sleep in peace than live in a palace built on lies.” His decision, like Moses’, was a quiet victory for faith.
Moses teaches us that the life of faith is not about avoiding hardship; it’s about choosing the hardship that leads to holiness over the comfort that leads to compromise. The fleeting pleasures of sin are no match for the lasting joy of God’s presence.
Triune Prayer
To the Heavenly Father:
Father, thank You for the clarity of Your Word and the example of Moses. I am humbled that You call me to walk the same path of faith—a path that often requires saying “no” to comfort so I can say “yes” to You. Help me to see beyond the glitter of this world’s promises and to value the eternal over the temporary. Father, strengthen my resolve when I am tempted to trade Your blessings for the world’s approval. Teach me to rest in Your provision, knowing that You will never abandon me in the wilderness of obedience.
To the Son:
Lord Jesus, You are the ultimate example of choosing obedience over comfort. You left the glory of Heaven to bear the cross for my salvation. You faced rejection, humiliation, and suffering—not because You had to, but because You loved me. Forgive me for the times I have chosen convenience over conviction. Give me courage to follow You even when the path is difficult and the cost is high. May I never forget that every sacrifice for Your sake is an investment in the Kingdom You are building.
To the Holy Spirit:
Holy Spirit, be my constant guide and reminder when my heart wavers. Show me the subtle ways in which I am tempted to settle for less than God’s best. Whisper truth to my soul when the enemy tells me compromise is harmless. Empower me to live with integrity in public and in private. Fill me with joy that overflows even in hardship, so that my life becomes a testimony of the greater reward found in walking with God. Let my choices today and every day be marked by faith, not fear.
Thought for the Day:
Faith looks past the fleeting pleasures of sin to the lasting joy of obedience.
Blessing:
Thank you for beginning your day in God’s presence. May you walk in faith today, choosing His ways over the world’s shortcuts, and find peace in knowing your reward is secure in Him.
