Whom Have I But Thee?

As the Day Begins

Psalm 73:25–26
“Whom have I in heaven but You? And earth has nothing I desire besides You. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”

Meditation

Asaph, the psalmist, was wrestling with the unfairness of life. He saw the wicked prosper while the faithful struggled, and his spirit nearly gave way. But then, in a moment of clarity within the sanctuary of God, he turned his eyes from the fleeting prosperity of the world to the eternal sufficiency of God Himself. Psalm 73:25–26 is not merely poetry; it is a declaration of dependence, a confession that when everything else fails, God remains the one true desire and unshakable foundation of life.

When we read these verses, we are confronted with a piercing question: what do we ultimately desire? Is it success, comfort, health, or recognition? Each of these may have its place, yet all of them can fade. The heart and the flesh—the very core of our strength—can falter. But the psalmist lifts us beyond temporary cravings to the eternal reality that God alone is enough. He is not simply the giver of blessings but the blessing Himself. This shifts our faith from being results-driven to being relationship-centered.

For you and me, this passage is a daily invitation to reorient our perspective. As the day begins, we can rest assured that whatever challenges lie ahead, God Himself is our portion. He is not a supplement to our lives but the very strength that carries us when our own strength gives way. In surrender, we discover freedom; in weakness, we encounter His power; in lack, we experience His fullness. Today, may this psalm lead us not to long for what is fading, but to cling to the One who endures forever.

Triune Prayer

Heavenly Father, I come before You this morning with a grateful heart. You are my Creator and Sustainer, the One who holds my days in Your hands. Father, I confess that I am easily distracted by the promises of the world. Too often, my desires are fixed on things that cannot last. Today, I ask You to remind me that my true portion is not found in possessions, health, or accolades but in You alone. Be my strength when I feel weak, and steady me with Your faithful love.

Lord Jesus, Son of God, I thank You for being my Redeemer and Friend. You know what it means to walk in weakness, to be tempted, and to suffer. You gave Yourself as my portion through the cross, and now I can face each day with hope because You live within me. Teach me to fix my eyes on You and not on the shifting circumstances around me. When I fail, remind me that Your grace is sufficient. Help me to walk in Your footsteps today, showing others that true life is found only in You.

Holy Spirit, You are my Comforter and Guide. I ask that You fill me afresh this morning with Your wisdom and strength. Guard my heart from discouragement when trials arise, and open my eyes to see the eternal perspective in every situation. Whisper truth to me when I am tempted to believe lies, and kindle in me a deeper love for the Father and the Son. Strengthen me in my inner being so that I may live today not in my own power, but in the fullness of Your presence.

Thought for the Day

When my strength fails and my desires waver, I will rest in God, for He is my portion and strength forever.

Thank you for beginning your day in God’s presence. May His strength carry you through every moment.
