Set Your Mind on Things Above

As the Day Begins

Colossians 3:2–3
“Think only about the things in heaven, not the things on earth. Your old sinful self has died, and your new life is kept with Christ in God.”

Devotional Meditation

Every morning is a fresh invitation to fix our eyes where they belong. Paul’s words in Colossians 3:2–3 remind us that the focus of our lives is not meant to be anchored in what fades, but in what endures. The earthly concerns that crowd our minds—finances, worries, schedules, ambitions—may feel overwhelming, but Paul calls us to reorient our hearts heavenward. This is not an escape from responsibility; it is the lens through which we view everything. When our minds are set on Christ, our earthly challenges are placed in their rightful context.

Paul reminds us that our old sinful selves have already died. That is a decisive truth. The grip of sin has been broken, and the life we now live is hidden securely with Christ in God. That means we don’t have to fight for our identity or scramble to define our worth. Our lives are safe in the One who conquered death. As we begin this day, that assurance can quiet the anxiety of trying to prove ourselves or grasp control.

This passage also teaches us that the Christian life is not about blending in with the world but about being shaped by heaven. The world says success is measured by possessions, position, or pleasure, but Christ says success is measured by faithfulness, love, and service. When our minds dwell on heaven, our lives on earth begin to reflect eternity’s values. Today is not just another day of routine—it is a chance to live with eternity in view, showing the world the hope of a life hidden in Christ.

Triune Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for waking me this morning and for reminding me that my life is not defined by the worries or successes of this world but by Your eternal love. Father, forgive me for the times I let earthly distractions consume my thoughts and cloud my perspective. Today I ask You to lift my eyes to heaven, where Christ is seated at Your right hand. Help me to live with the confidence that my old life is gone and my new life is securely kept with You.

Lord Jesus, Son of God, I thank You for giving me new life through Your death and resurrection. You are the One who has set me free from sin’s grip and secured my future in God. Teach me today to walk in the freedom You have purchased for me. Guard me from being drawn into worldly patterns of pride, greed, or fear, and help me to follow Your example of humility and service. Remind me, Lord, that real life is not found in clinging to earthly things but in abiding in You.

Holy Spirit, my Comforter and Guide, I invite You to fill me afresh this morning. Direct my thoughts toward heaven and guard my heart from being weighed down by temporary concerns. Whisper truth to me when I am tempted to chase after the world’s empty promises, and give me the courage to live as one set apart. Spirit of God, shape my character today so that others may see Christ in me. Let my words, my work, and my worship all reflect the reality that my life is hidden with Christ in God.

Thought for the Day

As I begin this day, I will set my heart and mind on things above, knowing that my true life is hidden with Christ in God.

Thank you for beginning your day in God’s presence. May your thoughts be lifted heavenward, your spirit strengthened by His promises, and your steps guided by His eternal love today and every day.
