As the Day Begins

When Strength Finds You in the Middle of Weakness

Scripture Reference: Psalm 138:3 — “On the day I called, You answered me; You made me bold with strength in my soul.”

Devotional Meditation

Some mornings, the weight of the world seems to arrive even before the sun rises. Our calendars are already full, our minds are racing, and our souls feel depleted before the day even begins. But Psalm 138:3 offers us a reminder that strength doesn’t always come from being prepared or well-rested—it comes from a deeper source. “On the day I called, You answered me; You made me bold with strength in my soul.” This verse speaks not of outer fortitude but of inner boldness—a soul strengthened not by circumstance, but by the presence and answer of God.

David, the author of this psalm, understood that real power comes from calling on the Lord. In the moment of desperation—not after solving the problem, not when everything was calm—he cried out, and the Lord answered. That answer gave him courage. This is not the courage of bravado but the holy boldness that comes from knowing we are not alone. It is the quiet resolve of the soul that says, “Even if I walk through the valley, I will not fear.”

I remember a season when my family was facing an uncertain health diagnosis. Each morning, I would rise early, walk to my prayer chair, and cry out for help. The answers didn’t come in loud declarations but in subtle, sustaining strength. I didn’t always know what to do, but I knew who was with me. And just as David testified, God made me bold—spiritually firm even when life felt fragile. That is the kind of strength Psalm 138:3 promises: not immunity from hardship, but intimacy in the hardship.

So, as your day begins, take a moment to pause and call upon the Lord. His answer may not change your to-do list, but it can change the tone of your heart. His presence doesn’t erase trouble, but it infuses you with strength to walk through it with faith and purpose.

Triune Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Today, I come to You as I am—tired in body, cluttered in mind, and yet open in spirit. I thank You for always hearing me when I call. There are days when I feel too weary to stand, but You lift me. I ask for the strength only You can give—the kind that changes not just my day but my perspective. Thank You for being a refuge where my soul can breathe. May I be reminded throughout this day that I am sustained not by my own strength but by Yours.

Lord Jesus, Son of God,
Thank You for walking the road of suffering so You could meet me in mine. You know what it is to be tired, to be tested, to be pressed on every side. You are not a distant Savior, but One who came close and still draws near. Today, as I carry the burdens of my responsibilities, I ask for Your courage to fill me. Make me bold—not in arrogance, but in grace. Teach me to speak life, act justly, and love mercy in Your name.

Holy Spirit,
You are the breath in my lungs and the fire in my heart. Stir in me a confidence that is rooted in Your indwelling presence. Remind me that I am not alone today—not in the boardroom, not at the kitchen table, not in the quiet moments of uncertainty. Empower me to reflect Your fruit—peace, patience, and kindness. Help me to walk boldly and humbly, as one guided by Your wisdom and sustained by Your presence.

Thought for the Day:
Strength doesn’t always roar; sometimes it whispers in the soul of one who calls on the Lord. Boldness begins not with confidence in ourselves, but with the assurance that God hears and answers.

Blessing:
Thank you for beginning your day in the presence of God. May His strength be your portion, His peace your guard, and His love your song. Walk boldly, for the Lord has heard your cry.
