The CEO of a national organization of Christian healthcare professionals that seeks to change hearts in healthcare says some doctors are doing a disservice to their patients.
In response to the recommendation given by surgeon Christopher Inglefield and the London Transgender Clinic, Dr. David Stevens of the Christian Medical Association says transplanting wombs into the men so they can have babies is problematic.
“The risk of rejection of the tissue, which would require another operation, hormonal manipulations, dangers to the baby,” are some of the complications he lists. “If conception took place, you’d have blood loss, requiring transfusion. Often with this type of surgery [is] risk of infection, organ rejection, and then the anti-rejection medications are very unpleasant.”
If such a man were to actually get pregnant, then he would have to have a C-section, and then the uterus would have to be removed after one or two pregnancies because it is foreign tissue.
“This is really healthcare professionals becoming partners in a delusion and essentially trying to justify this by saying it’s going to optimize the psychological wellbeing of this transgender person,” Dr. Stevens comments. “But in reality, you are doing something that is very dangerous and could be very harmful to the patient.”
Instead of surgery that will not actually change a man into a woman, Dr. Stevens recommends psychological counseling to remedy the problems that led the patient to his gender dysphoria so that he can actually align his mind with his born gender.
