Having loved his own who were in the world, he now showed them the full extent of his love. John 13:1
Lord Jesus, when you stripped and stooped to wash the disciples’ feet, you invited all of us to discover the kind of Savior you truly are. You take on our dirty feet and sinful hearts, our broken stories and our broken world.
Thank you for remaining committed to showing us the full extent of your love, Jesus (Eph. 3:14-19). That’s what we really need—more than this virus to be gone, elections to be settled, and “normalcy” to be regained.
When our hearts reel with fear and uncertainty, you bring peace—even before the storm is over. When we are weary and spent, you don’t tell us to buck up and be strong. You bid us come close … get low … yoke up … and find rest. We need the rest you alone can give us, Jesus.
You love us with the delight of a Bridegroom, the might of a King, and the tenderness of a Priest. During the last six weeks of 2020, make these things more real than the tensions in our world and hearts; more precious than gold and grandbabies; and more life-sustaining than oxygen and water. Thank you, Lord Jesus. So very Amen we pray, in your magnificent and merciful name.
