The Practice of Prayer

Before you begin your conversation with God, pause for a few moments and begin to relax. Take several deep breaths and call to mind how much God cares for you.

John 3:8 The wind blows where it wills, and you can hear the sound it makes, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes; so it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.

Walking against a strong wind is exhausting. Moving with the wind can feel almost effortless. When we are open to the Spirit of the Lord, we are filled with energy, direction, and freedom. When we resist the movements of the Spirit, nothing seems to work no matter how hard we try. The movement of the Spirit in our lives is seldom predictable, but always dependable.

Spirit of the Lord, help me to go in the direction you send me.
