As I Awake…

1 Thessalonians 5:1-11:

“Now concerning the times and the seasons, brothers and sisters, you do not need to have anything written to you. For you yourselves know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. When they say, ‘There is peace and security,’ then sudden destruction will come upon them, as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and there will be no escape! But you, beloved, are not in darkness, for that day to surprise you like a thief; for you are all children of light and children of the day; we are not of the night or of darkness. So then, let us not fall asleep as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober; for those who sleep sleep at night, and those who are drunk get drunk at night. But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, and put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation. For God has destined us not for wrath but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep we may live with him. Therefore encourage one another and build up each other, as indeed you are doing.”

Morning Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father,

As I begin this new day, I come before you with a humble heart, seeking Your presence and guidance. I thank You for the gift of life and for the opportunity to be a part of Your divine plan. Today, I lift up the words from 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11, asking You to bring them to life in my day.

Lord, help me to be aware of the times and seasons, knowing that Your return is certain. Remind me that the day of the Lord will come unexpectedly, like a thief in the night. May this awareness fill me with a sense of urgency to live a life that pleases You and to share Your love with others.

Father, I pray that You keep me from falling into darkness and slumber. Help me to stay awake and sober, to be vigilant in my faith and to live as a child of light. Clothe me with the breastplate of faith and love, guarding my heart and guiding my actions. Cover my mind with the helmet of hope, that I may always trust in Your salvation and be filled with joyful anticipation of eternity with You.

Lord, I thank You for Your grace and mercy, for choosing me to be a recipient of Your salvation through Jesus Christ. May I live each moment, awake or asleep, in the assurance of Your love and forgiveness. Help me to walk in the path of righteousness and to honor You in all that I do.

Lastly, Father, I ask for the strength to encourage others and to build them up. Show me opportunities to be a source of hope and inspiration, reminding them of Your love and faithfulness. May my words and actions reflect Your grace and bring glory to Your name.

I commit this day into Your hands, O Lord. May Your Word come alive in my life, transforming me to be more like You. In Jesus’ name, I pray.

Amen.
