As the Day Begins…

Matthew 14:13-21 (New International Version):

“13 When Jesus heard what had happened, he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns. 14 When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick.

15 As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, ‘This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food.’

16 Jesus replied, ‘They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.’

17 ‘We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish,’ they answered.

18 ‘Bring them here to me,’ he said. 19 And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. 20 They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. 21 The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, besides women and children.”

Morning Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father,

As we gather before You on this new day, we come with hearts full of gratitude and expectation. Just as Jesus had compassion on the crowd and provided for their needs, we recognize Your boundless love and care for us. We thank You for the gift of life, for the opportunities this day holds, and for Your constant presence in our lives.

Lord, as we begin our day, we acknowledge that we might encounter challenges and difficulties along the way. Like the disciples, we may sometimes feel overwhelmed by the tasks ahead, and our resources might seem insufficient. Yet, we draw strength from the miracle of the five loaves and two fish, where You multiplied the little they had into abundance.

Grant us the faith to trust in Your provision, knowing that no matter how small our offerings seem, You can work miracles through them. Help us to rely on Your wisdom and guidance as we navigate through our daily responsibilities.

In the face of uncertainties and trials, may we also show compassion to those around us, just as Jesus did. Let us be mindful of the needs of others, ready to extend a helping hand, a listening ear, and a heart of understanding.

As we go about our day, may our actions and words reflect Your love and grace. May we seek to be channels of blessings to those we encounter, sharing the goodness You have bestowed upon us.

Lord, we place our trust in You, knowing that You are the source of all strength, wisdom, and provision. Guide us, protect us, and lead us on the path of righteousness.

In Jesus’ name, we pray.

Amen.
