God’s Got This

Trusting His Plan Even When Life Gets Tough

Life can sometimes feel like it’s spinning out of control, can’t it? We face challenges that leave us wondering what in the world is going on. But here’s a comforting truth: God isn’t caught off guard by the twists and turns in your life. He’s not surprised when things go wrong.

In fact, everything that happens is part of His bigger plan, and it’s all working together to accomplish His purpose in your life.

I know that’s a big idea to wrap your head around, especially when you’re in the thick of a tough situation, but let’s dig into it a bit more.

Take the story of Joseph from the book of Genesis, for example. Joseph’s life was anything but easy. He was betrayed by his brothers, sold into slavery, falsely accused, and thrown into prison. Talk about a rough ride! But here’s the thing: through all of that, God was at work. Joseph didn’t see the full picture at first—it took him years to understand what God was doing. But eventually, Joseph realized something amazing: God had been orchestrating everything for a greater purpose. In Genesis 45:7, Joseph says, “God sent me ahead of you to preserve for you a remnant on earth and to save your lives by a great deliverance.” And later, in Genesis 50:20, he tells his brothers, “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.”

The challenges you’re facing right now might not make sense, but God is weaving them into His larger plan, one that’s designed for your good and His glory.

Think about that for a moment. Joseph’s hardships weren’t just random events—they were all part of God’s plan to save not only his family but an entire nation. God used the very things that seemed like setbacks and turned them into setups for something incredible. And here’s where it gets personal: if God could do that in Joseph’s life, don’t you think He can do the same in yours?

Letting Go of Bitterness and Embracing God’s Plan

When life deals us a tough hand, it’s easy to get bitter, isn’t it? We feel wronged, hurt, and sometimes even betrayed. But here’s the lesson we can learn from Joseph: bitterness isn’t the answer. Joseph had every reason to hold a grudge against his brothers—they did him dirty, no question. But instead of seeking revenge, Joseph chose a different path. He laid aside thoughts of payback and chose to trust God’s plan. When his brothers came to him, fearful of what he might do, Joseph said something remarkable: “Don’t be afraid. Am I in the place of God?” (Genesis 50:19). In other words, Joseph understood that vengeance wasn’t his job; it was God’s.

This is where Proverbs 20:22 comes into play: “Don’t say, ‘I’ll pay you back for this wrong!’ Wait for the Lord, and He will make things right.” What if making things right isn’t about getting even but about letting God work out His purpose? Joseph didn’t hold onto bitterness because he understood that God was at work, even through the actions of those who wronged him. And the same goes for us. When we let go of bitterness, we make room for God to bring renewal, to turn our pain into something that can be used for good. It’s not always easy to let go, but when we do, we’re allowing God to fulfill His plan in our lives.

Seeing God’s Faithfulness in the Middle of It All

Joseph’s story isn’t just about trusting God’s plan; it’s also about seeing His faithfulness through it all. Remember when Joseph’s brothers came to Egypt and bowed down before him, just as he had dreamed years earlier? In that moment, Joseph remembered the dreams God had given him and realized that God had kept His promise. Joseph’s life is a living illustration of Romans 8:28, which says, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.”

Here’s the thing: God uses everything—the good, the bad, and the ugly—to accomplish His purpose in our lives. That’s why we can even bless those who hurt us.

We can return good for evil because we know that no matter what anyone else does to us, God is at work, turning it around for our good. You don’t have to be a powerful leader like Joseph to experience this. You might not be dealing with the exact same challenges, but the principle is the same: God’s presence in your life means that no problem is too big for Him to handle. He’s always at work, even when things seem bleak.

So, the next time you feel like you’re in the crosshairs and tempted to strike back, remember this: God is using that person, that situation, to fulfill His plan, accomplish His purpose, and keep His promise in your life. Your job isn’t to get even—it’s to trust that God’s got this, that He’s working everything together for your good.

Application and Challenge

Here’s the challenge: the next time you face a tough situation, or someone does you wrong, resist the urge to get even. Instead, take a step back and remember that God is in control. Trust that He is working out His plan in your life, even when you can’t see it. Let go of bitterness and allow God to bring renewal and healing. Remember, payback belongs to God, and He is more than capable of making things right in His way and in His time.

Trust that God’s plan is bigger and better than anything you could imagine. Like Joseph, you may not see the full picture right now, but keep the faith. God is faithful, and He is working all things together for your good. Lean into that truth and watch how God takes your challenges and turns them into something beautiful.
