Here’s What God Can Do!
Have you ever felt like life has boxed you in, where every choice seems to lead to a dead end? It’s like being stuck in one of those impossible situations where no matter which way you turn, you’re bound to hit a wall. It reminds me of the classic novel Catch-22 by Joseph Heller, where fighter pilots are caught in a no-win situation during World War II. They wanted to escape their dangerous missions, but the only way out was to prove they were insane. The catch? Only a sane person would know enough to ask for a discharge, which meant they were too sane to be excused. It’s a frustrating, circular predicament, and life can feel just like that sometimes.
Whether it’s challenges in your job, struggles in your marriage, or tough times with your kids, it can feel like every path leads to nowhere good. Maybe you’re feeling like that right now—stuck in a situation where there’s no easy way out. It’s comforting to know that we’re not the first to experience this. The Bible is full of stories about people who found themselves boxed in, facing impossible situations. One of the most incredible examples is the story of the Israelites during the Exodus. After escaping from 430 years of slavery in Egypt, they found themselves trapped between the Red Sea and the mighty Egyptian army. It was the ultimate catch-22—stay put and be slaughtered by Pharaoh’s forces, or move forward and drown in the sea. It seemed like there was no way out, but that’s when God stepped in.
Right Where God Wants Us
In Exodus 14:1-2, we read how God deliberately led the Israelites to a place called Baal-zephon, a geographical cul-de-sac with nowhere to go. It sounds crazy, right? Why would God lead His people straight into a dead-end? But here’s the thing: sometimes, God leads us into situations that seem hopeless because He wants to teach us to trust Him more deeply. The Israelites weren’t there by mistake; they hadn’t taken a wrong turn. God had a plan all along, even when the situation looked dire.
Think about your own life for a moment. Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you felt like there was no way out? Maybe it was a tough decision at work, a rocky period in your marriage, or a challenge with your kids. It’s easy to feel like you’ve been abandoned, like you’ve made a wrong move and ended up in a mess. But what if, like the Israelites, you’re exactly where God wants you to be? What if He’s leading you into a place where you’ll have no choice but to rely on Him completely? The tough reality is that God sometimes leads us to our Red Seas so that we can learn to trust Him in ways we never thought possible. The good news is that He doesn’t leave us there—He goes with us and makes a way out.
Go Where God Leads You
When the Israelites were trapped between the Red Sea and the Egyptian army, God performed one of the most incredible miracles in the Bible. In Exodus 14:21, we see how God parted the sea, creating dry land for His people to walk through. Imagine the scene: the Israelites could hear the thunder of horses’ hooves behind them, see the glint of swords in the setting sun, and feel the fear rising in their hearts. They probably thought it was the end. But God had other plans. He showed them that when they trust Him, even the most impossible situations can be turned around.
Now, if we’re honest, most of us would have panicked in that situation. We might have tried to run or thrown up our hands in surrender. It’s natural to want to take control when things seem out of control. But Moses didn’t panic. In Exodus 14:13, he told the people to stand firm, to watch and see the salvation of the Lord. He knew that they had done all they could do and that now it was time to trust God to do what only He could do. This is a powerful lesson for us today. When we find ourselves stuck between a rock and a hard place, our first instinct might be to try and fix things on our own.
But sometimes, God is calling us to stop, to stand firm, and to trust that He will make a way when there seems to be no way.
A few years ago, I was led by God to start a new church with just a small group of people. It was a huge step of faith, and to be honest, I was terrified. We left a strong, established church and started meeting in a high school cafeteria. I worried about how it would all work out, but I knew that God had led me to this place. Just when I thought we had reached a dead-end, two men called me out of the blue and offered us a piece of land for our church. It was a clear reminder that when you follow God’s lead, He provides in ways you can’t even imagine.
Challenge
When you find yourself in a tough spot, boxed in by life’s circumstances, remember that God might have led you there for a reason. He wants you to trust Him completely, to stand firm, and to watch Him work in ways that only He can. My challenge to you is this: the next time you’re facing a Red Sea moment, resist the urge to panic or to try and fix things on your own. Instead, take a deep breath, stand firm in your faith, and trust that God is going to make a way. He’s done it before, and He’ll do it again.
