Finding True Success

Have you ever found yourself asking the big questions in life? You know, the ones that keep you up at night, like “Who am I? Why am I here? What’s my purpose?” These questions are as old as time, and they’re the kind that really matter. The Bible gives us a glimpse into how one man, Joshua, found the answer to these questions and fulfilled his God-given purpose. Joshua was about to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land—a purpose that had been set in motion long before he was born, back when God made a promise to Abraham. Joshua’s calling was clear: he was the one God had chosen to guide the people into their inheritance. This was what Joshua was born to do, and it’s what made his life meaningful.

Now, think about this: there’s nothing more tragic than going through life without knowing your purpose. Yet, that’s exactly where a lot of people find themselves today. Generally, people fall into three categories when it comes to purpose. First, there are those who drift through life without any clear direction. They go through the motions—school, work, marriage, maybe a couple of career changes—and then they retire and eventually pass away, never really understanding why they were here in the first place. Then, there are those who have a purpose, but it’s the wrong one. They might be incredibly successful by the world’s standards—climbing the career ladder, making a name for themselves—but they’re doing it all without any thought of God. And then there are those who have found the right purpose. These are the people who know that God put them on this earth for a reason, and they’re living that out every day. The key difference? The people in this last group have discovered and are pursuing God’s purpose for their lives, not their own.

Joshua knew that he was on the right path because he had three things going for him: God’s presence, God’s principles, and God’s purpose. When you have those three things, success isn’t just possible—it’s guaranteed. But it’s not the kind of success the world talks about. It’s not about fame, wealth, or personal achievements. It’s about fulfilling the purpose God created you for.

The Path to Irresistible Success

Joshua’s story is a great example of what it means to achieve true success, not by the world’s standards, but by God’s. Joshua didn’t become a success because he was the smartest or the most talented. He became a success because he followed God’s way, not his own. God promised Joshua, “No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life. Just as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you or forsake you” (Joshua 1:5). That’s an incredible promise! God was telling Joshua that if he recognized God’s presence, obeyed God’s will, and fulfilled God’s purpose, nothing could stand in his way.

That’s the kind of success that’s irresistible—when you’re aligned with God’s will, you become an unstoppable force.

It’s easy to get caught up in the idea that success is all about personal fulfillment, accomplishments, and happiness. But that’s not what the Bible teaches. True success is about being in God’s presence, following His principles, and fulfilling His purpose. It’s not about how much we can achieve on our own, but about how we fit into God’s plan. And when we do, God promises that He’ll take care of the rest. He’ll feed our need for success with the only kind of success that really matters—success in His eyes. When you’re walking with God, you don’t have to worry about whether you’ll succeed. You can be confident that you will because God’s purpose always prevails.

As you think about Joshua’s story, ask yourself: Am I living for God’s purpose or my own? Take some time to reflect on where you are in life. Are you drifting without direction, chasing the wrong purpose, or have you discovered what God created you to do? Remember, God doesn’t ask us to figure it all out on our own. He’s right there with us, ready to guide us if we’re willing to listen. Success isn’t something we achieve by our own strength; it’s something God gives us when we align ourselves with His will.

Challenge to the Christian Reader:

I challenge you to seek God’s purpose for your life today. If you’re not sure what that is, start by asking Him to show you. Spend time in prayer, read His Word, and be open to where He’s leading you. And if you already know what God has called you to do, step out in faith and do it, trusting that He will be with you every step of the way. When you’re living out God’s purpose, you’ll find a success that’s deeper and more satisfying than anything this world has to offer.
