Psalm 90:14 – “Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.”
Morning is a sacred time—a fresh canvas upon which the day’s events will unfold. In Psalm 90:14, Moses, the psalmist, pleads with GOD to satisfy His people with steadfast love in the morning so that joy may follow them throughout their lives. The morning sets the tone for the rest of the day, and Moses knew that without GOD’s love as the foundation, our days would be filled with emptiness rather than joy. We often wake up burdened by responsibilities, anxieties, and the weight of the unknown, but this verse reminds us that before anything else, we need to seek satisfaction in GOD’s love. This satisfaction is not temporary; it is the wellspring of lasting joy and purpose.
What does it mean to be satisfied by GOD’s love in the morning? It means that before the world makes its demands, before social media, news, or work captures our attention, we first allow GOD’s love to fill us. We meditate on His Word, recall His faithfulness, and rest in the truth that we are His beloved. When we do this, we cultivate a heart that rejoices rather than complains, trusts rather than worries, and walks in gratitude rather than discontentment. Life is unpredictable, and trials will come, but a heart that begins its day anchored in GOD’s steadfast love will not be easily shaken.
Moses prays that this satisfaction in GOD’s love will lead to a life of rejoicing. The joy spoken of here is not a fleeting happiness based on circumstances but a deep, abiding gladness rooted in the unchanging nature of GOD. The world offers countless temporary sources of happiness—success, relationships, possessions—but none compare to the eternal joy found in knowing and being loved by GOD. When we start our mornings seeking HIS presence and allowing HIS love to nourish our souls, we step into the day with a sense of peace, confidence, and purpose. Let us not rush into our day empty and anxious but be intentional in seeking HIS love, for it is the only source that can truly satisfy us.
Prayer
Heavenly FATHER, as the morning light breaks upon this new day, I come before YOU with a heart that longs to be filled with YOUR steadfast love. The world offers many distractions, but nothing satisfies my soul like YOUR presence. Help me to awaken each day with a hunger for YOU, to seek YOU before anything else, and to be nourished by YOUR grace. Let YOUR love be the first thing that greets my heart so that I may walk in joy, confidence, and trust. Strip away the anxieties that attempt to cloud my mind, and replace them with the assurance that YOU are near, that YOU are faithful, and that YOUR love never fails. Let my heart find deep rest in YOU so that I may rejoice, no matter what comes my way.
LORD JESUS, YOU are my joy, my peace, and my portion. I surrender my worries, my burdens, and my plans into YOUR hands, knowing that YOUR love is enough. May my satisfaction not come from achievements or circumstances but from the unchanging truth that I am loved by YOU. Holy SPIRIT, guide my steps today. Remind me to return to this moment of stillness whenever the day grows chaotic. Teach me to delight in YOUR presence, to lean on YOUR wisdom, and to reflect YOUR love to those around me. May this morning be the beginning of a day filled with gratitude, trust, and rejoicing. In YOUR precious name, I pray. Amen.
