As the Day Ends

His Hands and Feet

Scripture: Luke 24:39-40 “Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have. And when he had thus spoken, he showed them his hands and his feet.”

As evening falls, we turn our hearts to this tender scene in Luke’s Gospel. Jesus, recently risen from the grave, stands before His disciples, who are bewildered, frightened, and overwhelmed. Rather than rebuking them for their doubts, Jesus invites them to touch His hands and His feet—the very marks of His crucifixion. In doing so, He reassures them not only of His resurrection but of His continued presence in their lives.

The invitation to “handle me, and see” is deeply personal. Jesus meets them in their confusion and fear, offering tangible proof that He is real, alive, and victorious. The scars on His hands and feet are not signs of defeat but of love—love strong enough to conquer death itself. This same invitation extends to us today. In our seasons of doubt, weariness, or sorrow, Christ invites us to draw near, to “handle and see,” to encounter Him not as an idea, but as the living, present Savior who knows our struggles and stands victorious over them.

There is an insightful truth in Jesus showing them His scars. He did not erase the evidence of suffering; He transformed it. His wounds became testimonies of redemption, not shame. In the same way, the hurts and battles we endure can, through Him, become part of our witness to others. Our scars, physical or emotional, tell the story that we, too, have seen His redemption at work in our lives.

As this day closes, let us remember that our Savior is not distant. His hands and feet bear the marks of a love that reached into death and brought forth life. And tonight, He stands ready to show us again: “It is I myself.”

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

I come to You tonight with a heart that is both weary and hopeful. I thank You for sending Your Son, who did not remain distant from our struggles, but entered into them fully. As I reflect on the image of His scarred hands and feet, I am reminded of Your faithfulness through every trial and every joy. Father, help me to trust You more deeply when I cannot see the way clearly. Strengthen me to remember that Your presence is not only a comfort but a guarantee of victory. I lay down the burdens of this day at Your feet, believing that You care for me more tenderly than I often realize. Hold me close as I sleep, Father, and renew my spirit for the work You have prepared for me tomorrow.

Lord Jesus,

Thank You for standing among the brokenhearted and inviting us to see and believe. Your hands and feet bear witness to the cost of our redemption, and tonight, I am moved by the love that held You on the cross and lifted You from the grave. I long to “handle and see” Your goodness more clearly in my life. Help me, Jesus, to trust You with my wounds, to believe that You can transform even the deepest scars into testimonies of grace. Walk with me through every shadowed valley and lead me into Your light. Let my life be marked by Your resurrection power, and may the story of Your love be the first and last word on my heart each day.

Holy Spirit,

I welcome You into the quiet of this evening. You who hovered over the waters at creation, who descended like a dove upon the Son, and who fills believers with unshakable hope, fill me now. Teach me to listen for Your still, small voice amidst the noise of my worries and the chaos of the world. Soften my heart where it has grown hardened by disappointment, and quicken my spirit where it has dulled with routine. Let me carry the peace of Christ into the world tomorrow, strengthened by Your presence within me. Make me sensitive to Your leading so that, like those early disciples, I might bear witness to the living Christ through all I say and do.

Thought for the Day:

When doubt or fear presses in, remember the scars on Jesus’ hands and feet. They are not merely reminders of pain but everlasting proof of victory and love.
