Ezekiel 2:8
“But you, son of man, hear what I say to you. Be not rebellious like that rebellious house; open your mouth and eat what I give you.”
Morning Meditation
As the sun breaks through the silence of early morning, Ezekiel’s calling comes to us as both a warning and an invitation. “Be not rebellious,” the Lord says to the prophet—words not just for a man in ancient Babylon, but for us in our modern wilderness. Ezekiel stood amid a defiant and wayward people. The Lord wasn’t merely commanding him to preach; He was commanding Ezekiel to absorb His message, to eat it—make it part of his very being. Before Ezekiel could speak for God, he had to be nourished by God. That truth rings just as loudly for us as we begin a new day.
Rebellion against God rarely begins with loud defiance. More often, it creeps in subtly through the neglect of prayer, the overlooking of Scripture, the rationalization of selfish choices, or the dulling of conscience. That is why the Lord warns Ezekiel not to follow the crowd, not to blend into the backdrop of compromise. Instead, he must open his mouth and eat what the Lord gives. The image of eating God’s Word implies intimacy, nourishment, and transformation. God’s Word must move from ink on a page to sustenance in our soul.
As you begin today, ask yourself: what will you take in? The opinions of others? The endless noise of media? Or will you feast on the Word of God? This is not merely about Bible reading as a task—it’s about internalizing God’s truth so deeply that it defines your direction, your decisions, and your demeanor. Today, refuse to be rebellious. Open your mouth, and eat what the Lord gives. In doing so, your heart will be transformed, your voice will carry truth, and your life will reflect the One who calls you to obedience and intimacy.
Morning Prayer
To the Heavenly Father
FATHER, as this new day begins, I bow before You with a heart that longs to be obedient and attentive. I confess that there are moments when I resist Your voice, when I am tempted to follow my own way instead of Yours. But today, Lord, I ask for grace to not be like the rebellious house You warned Ezekiel about. Teach me to be still and listen to You. Help me open my mouth to receive what You offer. May Your Word become the bread I crave and the truth I live by. Feed me from Your hand, and let obedience rise from within me like the dawn.
To the Son
LORD JESUS, You are the Living Word. You showed perfect obedience to the FATHER, even unto death. You never rebelled, never turned aside, and never took the easy road of compromise. You are my model and my Redeemer. I ask that You would fill me with the same Spirit that filled You—that I might hunger and thirst for righteousness, and be satisfied. Help me follow You today, step by step, listening for Your voice, speaking Your truth, and loving others as You did. Let me eat of the Bread of Life that You are, and walk in the light of Your presence.
To the Holy Spirit
HOLY SPIRIT, dwell within me as I rise to face this day. Quicken my spirit to hear the voice of the LORD. Remind me when I begin to stray, and convict me when I fall into spiritual laziness. Burn away rebellion and replace it with joyful obedience. Whisper truth into my heart. Let Your Word not only inform my mind but transform my character. May every thought, every word, and every action today be seasoned with grace, anchored in truth, and led by You. Feed my soul and make me strong in the LORD, not rebellious, but resolved to walk in Your ways.
Thought for the Day
Before you speak to the world, make sure you’ve eaten from the Word. Let obedience be your nourishment, and truth your testimony.
