As the Day Begins
Morning Meditation on John 14:15
“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.”
Love is not proven by words alone. Jesus speaks plainly in John 14:15—our affection for Him must be shown in obedience. In our culture, love is often reduced to sentiment or feeling, but the biblical picture is far richer and deeper. True love is active, committed, and demonstrated by the way we live. Jesus makes it unmistakably clear: if we truly love Him, our lives will reflect His teaching.
Think about relationships in everyday life. If you love your spouse, your children, or your friends, you don’t simply say “I love you” and walk away. You show it through listening, sacrifice, patience, and presence. In the same way, love for Christ is not measured by how many hymns we sing or how many times we say the words—it is measured by whether we align our steps with His will. Obedience is not legalism; it is the natural fruit of genuine love. When we trust Him enough to follow, even when it costs us something, we prove that our hearts belong to Him.
I remember a season in my own ministry when obedience was tested. I felt God nudging me to forgive someone who had deeply wronged me. My emotions resisted, and I wanted to justify my anger. Yet the Spirit kept bringing me back to Christ’s command to forgive as I have been forgiven. It was only when I laid down my pride and acted in obedience that freedom came. Love was no longer just a feeling; it became an act of surrender. That is the call for every believer today—choosing love by choosing obedience.
As the day begins, let us examine our hearts: Where is God calling us to obey Him? Is there a command we’ve neglected, a prompting we’ve ignored, or a step of faith we’ve delayed? Jesus does not call us to empty duty, but to loving obedience that flows from devotion. When we walk in His ways, we discover joy, peace, and the assurance that our love is not only spoken but proven.
Triune Prayer
To the Father:
Heavenly Father, I thank You this morning for the gift of love that flows from Your heart. You loved me before I could ever respond, and You showed that love by sending Your Son into the world. Forgive me for the times when my lips have spoken of devotion while my actions have strayed from Your path. Teach me to see Your commandments not as burdens but as invitations into a life of freedom. Today, help me to honor You by walking faithfully, remembering that every act of obedience is a reflection of my love for You.
To the Son:
Lord Jesus, You are the perfect example of obedience. You loved the Father so deeply that You submitted even to death on a cross. You showed me that love is proven in action, not in words alone. Strengthen me to follow You in the same spirit. When I am tempted to take the easier path, remind me of Your sacrifice. When my emotions rise against forgiveness, service, or humility, let my love for You compel me to obey. Thank You for giving me Your words, Your presence, and Your example. May my life be a living testimony that I love You enough to keep Your commandments.
To the Holy Spirit:
Holy Spirit, I cannot obey in my own strength. My heart wanders, my will falters, and my pride resists. Yet You are my Helper and Guide. Fill me today with courage to act, patience to endure, and humility to submit. Whisper truth into my spirit when I am uncertain. Convict me gently when I turn aside. Empower me to love in deed and in truth, showing Christ’s love in every conversation, every decision, and every hidden thought. As I yield to You, make my obedience an act of worship that glorifies the Father and honors the Son.
