As the Day Begins
Scripture Reference: Titus 1:2
“…in the hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time.”
Meditation
There is something remarkably steadying about promises we can fully trust. Most of us have experienced disappointment when someone gave us their word but failed to keep it. Human promises, however well-intentioned, can falter under weakness, forgetfulness, or shifting circumstances. But Paul reminds Titus—and us—that God’s promises are utterly different. They are rooted in His unchanging character, “who does not lie.”
Eternal life was not an afterthought or a patchwork solution to human sin. It was in God’s heart before time began. That means His promise is older than creation, deeper than the fall, and stronger than our fears. When Paul writes of “the hope of eternal life,” he isn’t speaking of wishful thinking but a certainty anchored in the very nature of God. This is the kind of hope that can steady us in our mornings, guide us through uncertain afternoons, and comfort us in restless nights.
I remember visiting a dear church member in the hospital who was nearing the end of her earthly life. As I read Titus 1:2 aloud, she smiled weakly and whispered, “That’s the promise that keeps me.” Her faith was not in her own strength or even in the doctors around her, but in the God who had pledged eternal life before time began. That same promise carries us, whether we’re facing illness, disappointment, or the daily grind of responsibilities. Our hope is secure, not because of us, but because of Him.
As the day begins, let this verse remind you that you are held by an eternal promise, untouched by the lies or failures of this world. You can walk with courage and peace because your future is guaranteed by the God who cannot fail.
Triune Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the unshakable assurance of Your promise. In a world full of broken words and uncertain futures, You remain faithful and true. Before time even began, You planned eternal life for those who trust in You. Today I rest in Your steadfast love. Guard my heart from doubt and strengthen me to live in the confidence of Your faithfulness. Remind me that nothing in this life can undo what You have already secured in Christ.
Lord Jesus, Son of God,
I thank You for making the Father’s promise of eternal life visible through Your death and resurrection. You entered into time so that I might step into eternity. Teach me to live each moment with eternity in mind. When I feel weary, renew my vision to see beyond today’s struggles. Help me to reflect Your hope to others who are searching for assurance, pointing them not to myself but to the life only You can give.
Holy Spirit,
You are the seal of this promise in my life, the guarantee that what the Father has spoken, and the Son has accomplished is true for me. Fill me today with Your presence. Remind me of the eternal hope that is mine, so I do not grow faint in my daily walk. Give me courage to share this promise with others, and sensitivity to recognize when hearts are ready to receive. Lead me into deeper trust and joyful obedience, that my life may bear witness to Your eternal truth.
Thought for the Day: Because God cannot lie, His promise of eternal life is as sure as the sunrise. Walk today in the confidence that your future is safe in His hands.
Thank you for beginning your day in God’s presence. May His eternal promise steady your steps, fill your heart with peace, and keep your eyes fixed on the life that is to come.
