Never Forsaken

As the Day Begins
Scripture: Psalm 37:25“I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread.”

 Meditation

There are few verses in Scripture that carry the weight of life’s lived testimony quite like Psalm 37:25. Here we find David, the seasoned shepherd-king, reflecting back over decades of victories and failures, triumphs and sorrows. His conclusion is not based on theory but on experience: “I have never seen the righteous forsaken.” What a declaration of God’s faithfulness! David reminds us that in every stage of life—from the vigor of youth to the frailty of old age—God has remained constant. This verse assures us that God’s people will never be abandoned, no matter how desperate their circumstances may feel.

Yet, let us be careful. This passage is not a promise that the righteous will never experience hardship, hunger, or seasons of testing. Rather, it affirms that even in the midst of trial, God sustains His people. The righteous may walk through valleys, but they will not be left there. God’s provision may come in unexpected forms—through the generosity of others, the strength to endure, or the wisdom to see His hand guiding them forward. His faithfulness is not measured by the absence of need, but by His presence in every need.

For us, Psalm 37:25 is a call to trust. Our culture often promotes self-sufficiency and independence, but Scripture teaches dependence upon the Lord. We learn that provision is more than bread on the table—it is the assurance that God’s love, mercy, and care surround us daily. This truth frees us from fear. When anxiety whispers that the future is uncertain, God’s Word speaks louder: He will never forsake His own. As you step into today, carry the certainty that you walk under the shadow of His protection. His record across history—and across your own life—is flawless. He has never failed, and He will not begin today.

Triune Prayer

To the Father:
Heavenly Father, I thank You that from my earliest days until now, You have held me in Your care. You have provided for me in ways seen and unseen, guiding my steps when I did not know the way. I confess that sometimes I allow fear to cloud my trust in You, worrying about tomorrow instead of resting in Your promises. But today I remember the testimony of David—that You never forsake the righteous. Father, strengthen my faith to see beyond my circumstances, to trust that You are both my Provider and Protector. Teach me to live each moment with gratitude, knowing that every good gift comes from Your hand.

To the Son:
Lord Jesus, I thank You for embodying the faithfulness of God in human form. You walked among the hungry and weary, and You showed compassion to those the world had forgotten. On the cross, You bore my sin so that I might never be forsaken. Because of You, I know that no hardship can separate me from the love of God. Jesus, help me to follow Your example today—to feed the hungry, to clothe the poor, and to extend kindness to the overlooked. Let my life reflect Your care, so that others may see Your provision through me. When I am tempted to despair, remind me of the empty tomb and the living hope that sustains me.

To the Holy Spirit:
Holy Spirit, I invite You to fill my heart with peace and assurance today. You are the Comforter who reminds me of all truth, whispering into my spirit that I am a child of God. Guide me away from fear and into faith. Give me wisdom to recognize God’s provision in unexpected places. Teach me to be content with what the Father supplies, and empower me to share generously with those in need. Spirit of God, let my life today be a living witness of Psalm 37:25, so that others may say, “God’s people are never forsaken.” Lead me, strengthen me, and remind me continually of the Father’s unchanging love.
