As the Day Begins
Scripture: John 11:4 – “When Jesus heard that, He said, ‘This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified through it.’”
Meditation
There are mornings when the weight of yesterday lingers—when news, illness, or sorrow settles in before the sun rises. Yet John 11:4 reminds us that even the shadows of sickness and sorrow can become the canvas upon which God paints His glory. Jesus’ words about Lazarus were not dismissive of pain but declarative of purpose. What was perceived as tragedy became testimony, and what seemed to end in loss became the very moment God revealed the life-giving power of His Son.
When we face moments that appear to unravel everything we hold dear, we are often standing at the threshold of revelation. Jesus does not deny that Lazarus is sick; instead, He reframes the suffering: “This sickness is not unto death.” In other words, this will not have the final word. The purpose behind the pain was not punishment but revelation—that the Son of God may be glorified through it. Every believer, in their own hour of trial, is invited to believe that God is weaving eternal purposes through temporary wounds.
This truth asks something of us as the day begins: to look beyond what we can see and trust what God has promised. We are called to reframe our struggles as potential stages for divine glory. The Gospel does not promise an absence of hardship but the presence of Christ within it. Even our waiting becomes sacred when we believe that His timing is never wasted. The raising of Lazarus came after four long days—a delay that felt cruel at first—but in that delay, Jesus was orchestrating a revelation far greater than immediate healing. He was preparing to reveal resurrection power.
So, as you begin your day, if something feels delayed, unfinished, or unanswered, remember this: God is not indifferent. He is intentional. The very space that feels empty may be the one where He intends to display His greatest glory. Let that assurance carry you into the day ahead, not with resignation, but with expectation. For even now, the Lord is working for your good and His glory.
Triune Prayer
To the Heavenly Father:
Father, I thank You that You see beyond the immediate, that nothing in my life escapes Your wisdom or care. When I awaken to uncertainty, teach me to rest in the knowledge that You are still writing my story. Help me not to interpret my trials through fear but through faith. Remind me that You are glorified not only in my victories but in my perseverance. I surrender this day to You, asking for the grace to trust that Your hand is steady even when my heart trembles. May my life reflect Your glory, even in the moments I don’t yet understand.
To the Son:
Lord Jesus, You stood before Lazarus’ tomb and spoke life where death had settled. Speak that same life into the weary places of my soul today. Where discouragement has crept in, resurrect hope. Where fear whispers lies, replace them with truth. Teach me to walk in the confidence of Your presence, knowing that You redeem what I cannot repair. Help me to glorify You in both sorrow and song, trusting that You are shaping every moment for eternal good. As I follow You through the hours ahead, let my words and deeds bear witness that You are the Resurrection and the Life.
To the Holy Spirit:
Holy Spirit, Comforter and Counselor, fill me anew as this day unfolds. Grant me discernment to recognize divine purpose in ordinary moments. Whisper peace when anxiety rises, and give me wisdom to respond to others with grace. Use my voice, my work, and even my waiting to reveal the presence of Christ. Let the fruit of Your Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness—flow through me so that others may see Your transforming power. Guide my thoughts, steady my steps, and renew in me a holy confidence that nothing in this day is wasted when surrendered to You.
Thought for the Day
The circumstances that trouble us may, in God’s hands, become the very stage for His glory. Trust Him to turn today’s uncertainty into tomorrow’s testimony.
