As the Day Begins
Colossians 1:13 — “For He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves.”
As the day begins, we awaken to a truth that is easy to overlook: we rise not as people stumbling through spiritual shadows, but as citizens of a different Kingdom—one marked by light, love, and redemption. Paul’s words to the Colossians are more than theological beauty; they are the firm ground beneath our feet this morning. We stand in a Kingdom we did not deserve but were delivered into by grace.
This passage is not merely about where we are spiritually located, but Whose hands carried us there. “He has rescued us”—that is God’s completed action. It is not our striving, moral recovery, or spiritual progress that brings us into the light, but God’s decisive intervention. When Paul says we are delivered “from the dominion of darkness,” he is naming the reality every believer once knew well: a life where shadows shaped desires, fears reigned in the inner life, and sin dictated the contours of our story. But now, as redeemed people, the morning light is not simply a physical blessing—it is a daily reminder of the spiritual dawn God brought into our lives through Christ.
Even on days when our hearts feel heavy or the world around us seems dim, Scripture calls us to remember that we no longer belong to darkness in any form. The Kingdom of God’s beloved Son is not a distant hope we wait to enter someday—it is a present reality we wake up inside. Christ’s Kingdom is a realm defined by healing, transformation, and belonging. It is a space where shame is displaced by grace, where confusion is met with wisdom, and where fear bows before the peace of the Son He loves.
As you prepare to walk into the responsibilities, conversations, and challenges of this day, anchor yourself in this truth: God has already done the hardest part. He has performed the rescue. You are not fighting for acceptance; you are living from acceptance. You are not seeking entry into His Kingdom; you are already standing in it, shielded by the love of the Son and empowered by His presence. Let this truth settle deeply into your spirit before the busyness of today begins. In Christ’s Kingdom, nothing you face today will be encountered alone, and nothing will be larger than the King who holds you.
And so, as the morning breaks, let your heart rest in this assurance: you have been brought out of darkness and placed firmly into the arms of divine light. That is where your story begins today.
Triune Prayer
Heavenly Father, as this new day dawns, I thank You that the first word spoken over my life is not fear, failure, or inadequacy—it is rescue. You saw me in the shadows where I once wandered, and with compassion deeper than I can grasp, You reached into the dark places and drew me into Your marvelous light. Today I ask that You steady my heart in the knowledge that I am Yours. Let Your wisdom guide my decisions, Your mercy shape my interactions, and Your steadfast love calm the rising tensions of the day. Teach me to trust that Your deliverance is not just a past event but a daily mercy that continues to lead me with tenderness and strength.
Lord Jesus, Son of the Father’s love, I praise You for the Kingdom into which You have brought me. You did not merely invite me—you carried me. You bore my sin, my shame, and my wandering spirit so that I could stand in the light You purchased with Your own blood. Today, help me walk worthy of the Kingdom that bears Your name. When I feel the pull of old shadows, remind me that Your love defines me more deeply than my mistakes ever could. When I feel overwhelmed, lift my eyes to the truth that no darkness I encounter today is stronger than the light You have placed within me. Let me serve others with the same compassion You have shown me and let my words reflect the hope of the Kingdom to which I now belong.
Holy Spirit, my Comforter and Guide, breathe life into every part of this day. Fill me again with Your presence so that the habits, fears, or patterns that once ruled me will find no place to settle. Illuminate my thoughts with insight and clarity. Create in me a heart that delights in righteousness and a spirit that moves with peace even in the midst of pressure or uncertainty. Guard my tongue, direct my steps, and anchor my soul. When distractions crowd my attention or anxieties try to rise, whisper again the truth of who I am: delivered, beloved, and held. Lead me in the light of the Kingdom so that today my life bears witness to the power of Your renewing work.
Amen.
Thought for the Day
Walk today as a citizen of light.
Let every choice, conversation, and response reflect the truth that God has already rescued you and has already placed you in the Kingdom of His beloved Son.
Thank you for beginning your day in God’s presence.

It’s now 50 years years since that Awesome Day, February 1, 1975, when I suddenly and unexpectedly, to my great surprise and wonder, came alive and sensitized to God within me at 31.
I am sought of them that asked not for me; I am found of them that sought me not: I said, Behold me, behold me, unto a nation that was not called by my name. Isaiah 65:1
