As the Day Ends
“Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.” —1 John 3:2
The return of Christ is not given to the Church merely as a subject for speculation. Scripture consistently connects the appearing of Jesus with faithfulness, holiness, endurance, and hope. John does not invite us to calculate dates or become absorbed in theories. He directs our attention toward the transforming effect of expecting Christ: “Everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure” (1 John 3:3).
The promise is personal and relational. We will see Christ “as He is,” and in seeing Him, we will be made like Him. The Greek word translated “revealed,” phaneroō (φανερόω), means to make visible or bring into the open. Jesus is already Lord, already reigning, and already worthy of worship. At His appearing, what is presently known by faith will become openly visible to all.
This hope should shape how I end this day. I do not know how many earthly days remain, but I know where history is moving. Christ will appear, His people will see Him, and every unfinished work of grace will be completed. Therefore, I can examine my conduct without fear and confess my failures without despair. My hope rests not in my ability to perfect myself, but in the Savior who is steadily conforming me to His image.
Heavenly Father, thank You for receiving me as Your child through faith in Christ. As this day closes, search my heart and reveal any thought, attitude, or action that does not reflect Your holiness. Forgive me where I have been careless, impatient, distracted, or unloving. Teach me to live with the quiet readiness of one who expects to stand in Your presence.
Jesus the Son, I rejoice that You will appear and that I will see You as You are. Keep my hope centered upon You rather than upon speculation, fear, or curiosity. Purify my desires, strengthen my obedience, and help me love Your appearing by living faithfully now. Let the expectation of seeing You make me more gracious, truthful, and steadfast.
Holy Spirit, continue Your sanctifying work within me while I rest. Bring conviction where I need correction and peace where I have trusted Christ. Guard me from spiritual complacency. Form the character of Jesus in me so that my anticipation of His return becomes visible in the way I speak, serve, forgive, and endure.

Before I sleep, I will surrender one habit, attitude, or unresolved concern that does not belong in a life preparing to see Christ.
