As the Day Begins

Everything around us seems capable of changing overnight. Plans shift, relationships enter new seasons, circumstances surprise us, and even our own emotions can be different by noon than they were when we awakened. Yet the Christian begins the day with a truth stronger than every uncertainty: Jesus Christ has not changed.
When the risen Jesus declared that all authority had been given to Him in heaven and on earth, He was not making an ambitious claim. He was announcing an accomplished reality. The One who spoke those words had faced temptation, endured rejection, carried the cross, entered death, and risen victoriously from the grave. No earthly ruler granted Him this authority, and no earthly power can take it away. The Greek word translated “authority,” exousia, includes the right, freedom, and sovereign power to act. Jesus does not merely possess enough strength to help us; He has the rightful authority to rule every circumstance we will face.
A. W. Tozer reminds us that Christ still possesses “the same love, the same grace, the same mercy, the same power” toward His people. That does not mean Jesus will always act according to our preferences or repeat every miracle in precisely the same way. It means His character has not weakened, His compassion has not diminished, and His promises have not expired. “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8). We can step into this day without knowing what will happen because we know the One who holds authority over whatever comes.
Triune Prayer
Heavenly Father, I thank You that Your throne is not shaken by the changes that unsettle me. You see the entire day before I take my first step into it. Forgive me for the moments when I measure Your faithfulness by my circumstances or assume that silence means You are absent. Help me remember that Your love remains steady, Your mercy is renewed this morning, and Your purposes are still being accomplished. Place my confidence in Your character rather than in my ability to predict or control what lies ahead.
Jesus the Son, I worship You as the risen Lord who possesses all authority in heaven and on earth. Thank You that the hands holding my life are the same hands that were pierced for my salvation. Teach me to bring every fear, decision, responsibility, and temptation beneath Your lordship. When I feel weak, remind me that Your strength has not changed. When I feel forgotten, assure me that Your compassion has not faded. When I face something beyond my ability, help me say with faith, “My Savior is still Lord over this.”
Holy Spirit, make the reality of the unchanging Christ living and active within me today. Guard me from treating biblical truth as information I admire but fail to trust. Give me wisdom to recognize where Jesus is leading, courage to obey when His direction challenges me, and patience when His work is not immediately visible. Produce within me the steady character of Christ so that my responses reflect His grace. Let my words carry peace, my choices demonstrate faith, and my presence remind others that Jesus remains trustworthy in every generation.
Thought for the Day
Before reacting to anything that changes today, pause and remember what has not changed: Jesus still reigns, His grace is still sufficient, His Word is still true, and His presence is still with you. Place today’s greatest concern beneath His authority and walk forward in obedience.
