As the Day Ends
“Let all things be done decently and in order.” —1 Corinthians 14:40
Evening Meditation
Paul originally wrote these words to correct disorder in the worship of the Corinthian church. The Greek word euschēmonōs, translated “decently,” carries the sense of acting honorably and appropriately, while taxis, translated “order,” describes a proper arrangement. Together, they remind us that spiritual sincerity does not excuse confusion, concealment, or careless conduct. If something truly belongs to God, it should be able to withstand honest examination. Churches should be transparent in their finances, leaders should remain accountable in their conduct, and ministries should be willing to explain their decisions. Truth does not fear the light because God Himself is light.
A. W. Tozer argued that Christian work should be especially open to inspection. Candor begins before anyone examines our records or questions our behavior. It begins when we become truthful with God and ourselves. As this day closes, we can stop defending our motives and let the Lord search them. Did I exaggerate, conceal, manipulate, or avoid responsibility? Did my private conduct agree with my public confession? A child often speaks with an honesty that embarrasses adults because the child has not yet learned to protect appearances. Jesus calls us toward that childlike openness—not immaturity, but freedom from pretense. God does not inspect us to humiliate us; He brings us into the light so that He may cleanse and restore us.
Triune Prayer
Heavenly Father, I come before You without excuses or carefully arranged appearances. You have seen every decision, conversation, and motive from this day. Thank You that Your knowledge of me is complete and Your mercy remains available. Search me and reveal anything dishonest, disordered, or hidden within me. Give me the humility to confess what is wrong, correct what can be corrected, and welcome wise accountability. Teach me to live openly before You so that my private character supports my public testimony.
Jesus the Son, You lived without deceit, spoke truth without manipulation, and brought grace to those who stepped into the light. Forgive me when I care more about appearing righteous than becoming faithful. Where I have hidden behind religious language, remove the disguise. Where I have failed someone, give me courage to make it right. Let my service reflect Your integrity, and help every responsibility entrusted to me withstand honest inspection. Tonight, I rest in the assurance that Your blood cleanses confessed sin.
Holy Spirit, shine Your light into the places I overlook or resist. Give me discernment to recognize self-deception and courage to receive correction without defensiveness. Bring order to my thoughts, motives, relationships, and service. Form within me the refreshing candor of a child who has nothing to hide from a loving Father. As I sleep, continue Your quiet work of renewal so that I may awaken ready to walk transparently, faithfully, and peacefully before God and others.

Before sleeping, ask: “Lord, is there anything from today that I need to confess, clarify, or correct?” Welcome His light, receive His mercy, and plan one honest act of obedience for tomorrow.
