The Courage to Face the Day

As the Day Begins

“I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until that day.” — 2 Timothy 1:12, NIV

Paul wrote these words while suffering for the gospel. He did not need to pretend that his circumstances were comfortable or that everyone would welcome his message. He knew whom he had believed. His confidence rested in the Lord’s ability to guard what Paul had entrusted to Him, even when Paul could not see how his own story would unfold. That is a steady place from which to begin a day. I can name a real concern without letting it become the whole story, because I can bring it to the One I trust.

A. W. Tozer urges Christians to face the world truthfully, without hiding in pleasant fantasy. Some mornings, the facts before us are difficult: a troubling conversation awaits, someone we love is unwell, or yesterday’s problem is still on the table. Faith does not ask us to call those things easy. It invites us to look at them with God’s Word open and our hearts turned toward Him. Paul’s certainty was personal—“I know whom I have believed.” Before I decide what I can manage today, I can remember whose care holds me.

Father, thank You for welcoming me into this day as I am. You already know the responsibilities ahead, the concerns I have spoken aloud, and the ones I have kept to myself. Help me face each one honestly. When I am tempted to imagine a reassuring outcome simply because I want it, give me patience to seek the truth. When a hard fact frightens me, remind me that I may bring it into Your presence. Teach me to trust Your care while I take the next faithful step.

Jesus the Son, thank You for meeting people in the real circumstances of their lives. You saw grief, illness, opposition, and fear, and You spoke and acted with truth and compassion. As I go among others today, keep me from offering easy assurances where someone needs a listening ear. Give me courage to speak truth gently when it is needed and humility to hear it when it is spoken to me. Let my confidence in You make me more attentive to people, not less.

Holy Spirit, guide my thoughts when worry begins to fill every space. Bring Scripture to mind and help me understand how to live it in the decisions before me. Show me where I need to prepare, where I need to ask for help, and where I need to release an outcome I cannot control. Give me the quiet strength to continue in faithfulness, one conversation and one task at a time. Keep drawing my attention back to the Lord I know and trust.

Thought for the Day: Name one concern you are carrying. Pray about it honestly, then choose one faithful action you can take today while entrusting its outcome to God.
