As the Day Begins
“God created every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.” — Genesis 1:21, NIV (Bible Gateway)
A bird begins singing outside the window before we have decided what sort of day this will be. There may be work waiting, a difficult conversation ahead, or a worry that followed us through the night. The bird knows nothing of our schedule. Its song still invites us to pause and notice a world that God called good before we had accomplished anything in it.
Genesis does not tell us every reason a bird sings. It tells us something we need to remember about the bird itself: God made it and delighted in His creation. The psalmist hears birds singing among the branches, and Jesus asks anxious people to look at them and remember their Father’s care. Their song can become a reminder to pray before the noise of the day takes over. The God who attends to the birds has not forgotten us. That promise does not remove every difficulty before us, but it gives us a place to stand as we meet them. (Bible Gateway)
Prayer to the Father
Heavenly Father, thank You for a morning filled with life that I did not have to create. When I hear a bird outside, help me receive it as an invitation to notice Your care. I bring You the concerns that greeted me when I woke: the work I must do, the people I love, and the matters I cannot settle today. Give me wisdom for what is mine to do and trust for what must remain in Your hands. Open my eyes to the goodness I might otherwise hurry past, and let gratitude make me attentive to the needs of others.
Prayer to the Son
Jesus the Son, You told Your listeners to look at the birds when worry pressed upon them. Teach me to hear Your words as I enter this day. When I begin to measure my worth by how much I finish, remind me that You called me to seek Your kingdom. Guide me through the next faithful step, whether it is patient work, an honest conversation, or a quiet act of kindness. Thank You for drawing near to ordinary people with ordinary concerns. Let the way I speak and serve today show something of Your gentleness.
Prayer to the Holy Spirit
Holy Spirit, steady my thoughts when they race ahead to things that have not happened. Make me aware of Your guidance in the choices directly before me. If I become impatient, bring me back to love. If I overlook a person who needs my attention, prompt me to stop. Give me a grateful heart without asking me to pretend that life is easy. As I hear the sounds of creation around me, help me remember the Creator and live this day in His presence.
Thought for the Day: When you hear a bird today, pause for a moment. Thank God for one good thing you can see, and entrust one concern to His care. Then return to the task before you with a little more attention to the people beside you.
