As the Day Begins
“God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” Revelation 21:3–4, ESV
Some mornings begin with a sorrow that sleep could not remove. We awaken to the same empty chair, the same unanswered question, or the same difficult diagnosis. Revelation 21 speaks into those mornings with the promise of God’s presence. The future John sees is one in which God dwells with His people and removes the suffering that has wounded His creation.
Notice the tenderness: God wipes away tears. The One who rules over all things attends personally to the grief of His children. The sorrow you carry today will never be beyond His care, and it will not have the final word. Christ’s resurrection gives us reason to trust that death’s power will end.
We can therefore begin today with eagerness and patience. Eagerness remembers that God has promised a future worth anticipating. Patience helps us remain faithful while we wait. We can grieve honestly, receive help, and offer compassion to others. Our hope rests in the Lord who will bring His people into a life where nothing remains to make them weep.
Heavenly Father, I bring You the sorrows that follow me into this morning. You know the names, memories, and fears behind every tear. Thank You for promising to dwell with Your people and for caring about the wounds we sometimes struggle to explain. Keep me from measuring Your faithfulness by how quickly my circumstances change. Help me receive today’s mercies with gratitude, attend to today’s responsibilities with courage, and trust the future to Your loving hands. Let Your promised presence steady my heart.
Jesus the Son, Your empty tomb assures me that death cannot overturn Your victory. When loss makes the future feel uncertain, turn my attention toward You. Teach me to follow You through this day without demanding that every question be answered first. Give me the patience to love people who are hurting and the tenderness to listen before speaking. May the hope of resurrection shape my choices, strengthen my obedience, and remind me that the life You promise is secure in Your keeping.
Holy Spirit, renew my hope when weariness makes it difficult to look ahead. Help me recognize the difference between patient trust and simply giving up. Keep my heart responsive to Scripture and attentive to the people You place before me. When I feel tempted to withdraw, guide me toward a faithful act of love. When anxiety presses me to control everything, teach me to surrender. Form in me an eager expectation of God’s future and a quiet willingness to serve Him today.
Thought for the Day
Before your day gathers speed, name one sorrow before God and entrust it to His care. Then offer one act of comfort to someone else. Revelation 21:3–4 gives Christian hope a clear foundation: God’s presence, the end of death, and the removal of suffering. Let that promise make you patient in your own pain and compassionate toward another person’s tears.
