Grace Has a Voice—It Can Be Yours

As the Day Begins

“Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.” —2 Corinthians 5:20, ESV

Some mornings, I need to remember that my wounds do not disqualify me from offering encouragement. Paul describes himself and his fellow workers as Christ’s ambassadors, entrusted with God’s message of reconciliation. Their authority rests in the Savior they represent. As David Guzik explains, God’s reconciling work through Christ establishes the ministry of reconciliation entrusted to His servants. Our Christian witness begins with that same grace: through Jesus, sinners can be brought into a restored relationship with God. The hope we offer rests on Christ’s faithfulness, even while our own healing continues.

That gives our experiences of suffering a place in ministry without making suffering itself good. Second Corinthians 1:3–4 teaches that God comforts us so we can comfort others. A difficult season may teach us to listen patiently, recognize hidden grief, or sit beside someone without rushing their recovery. We need not disclose every painful detail or explain why everything happened. Sometimes our most faithful testimony is simple: “The Lord is sustaining me, and I would be glad to walk beside you.” We can share the comfort we have received without pretending the struggle is over.

A Morning Prayer

Heavenly Father, I bring You the parts of my story that still ache. Thank You for welcoming me through Christ and receiving the prayers I struggle to express. Help me recognize Your care today through Scripture, friendship, and quiet moments of strength. Keep me from measuring Your love by how quickly my circumstances improve. As I receive Your comfort, make me attentive to someone who needs kindness. Give me patience to listen and wisdom to respect what that person is ready to share.

Jesus the Son, thank You for making reconciliation possible through Your death and resurrection. Let Your grace shape both my words and my manner. Forgive me when I offer hurried answers because another person’s sorrow makes me uncomfortable. Teach me to speak honestly about Your faithfulness without making promises You have not made. Help me represent You with humility, tenderness, and courage. May the person I encounter today hear an invitation to trust You and find room to ask honest questions.

Holy Spirit, guide my attention toward the person I might otherwise overlook. Restrain my impulse to turn every conversation toward myself. Show me when to speak, when to pray, and when to remain quietly present. Protect me from serving beyond my strength simply to prove my usefulness. Help me receive support as willingly as I offer it. Use what You are restoring within me to nourish compassion, and give me one clear opportunity to practice that compassion today.

Thought for the Day

Before the day becomes busy, ask God to bring one person to mind who could use encouragement. Send a thoughtful message, offer practical help, or make time to listen. Let your experience make you curious about their needs rather than certain you already understand. A faithful witness makes room for another person to encounter the grace of Christ.
