Shaken Not Stirred

As the Day Begins

Scripture: “The words ‘once more’ indicate the removing of what can be shaken—that is, created things—so that what cannot be shaken may remain.” — Hebrews 12:27

Devotional Meditation

The writer of Hebrews speaks to a reality that feels especially timely in our age of uncertainty: everything in this world that is shakable will, eventually, be shaken. Our jobs, our health, our governments, our possessions—even our routines—are not built to last forever. Hebrews 12:27 reminds us that God Himself permits the shaking, not to destroy His people but to refine us, so that what truly matters—His eternal Kingdom—remains unshaken.

Think for a moment of a strong storm shaking the trees. The weak branches fall, the loose leaves scatter, and what remains is what is firmly rooted. In much the same way, God allows life’s storms to strip away our dependence on what is temporary, leaving us anchored in Him. The shaking is not a punishment; it is an act of grace, reminding us not to place our hope in fragile foundations but in the eternal Christ who holds all things together.

I recall a season when I lost a dear friend unexpectedly. In the days that followed, my world felt shattered. But in the midst of that grief, I discovered something that could not be shaken: the comfort of God’s presence and the unchanging hope of resurrection. When everything else crumbled, His promises held firm. Perhaps you too have walked through a shaking—a diagnosis, a financial setback, a strained relationship. These tremors of life serve as invitations to cling not to what is passing, but to what will endure forever.

Beloved, when you feel shaken, remember: Christ is your anchor. His Kingdom cannot be moved, His Word cannot fail, and His love will not be taken from you. Every shaking is a holy reminder to set your feet not on the sand but upon the Rock of ages.

Triune Prayer

To the Father:
Heavenly Father, I come before You in gratitude that You are my unshakable foundation. You have created all things, and yet You remind me not to cling too tightly to what fades away. Teach me to trust that even when life is unstable, Your Kingdom is firm. Help me loosen my grip on earthly securities so that I may rest more fully in Your eternal presence. Guide my heart today so that I walk in confidence, not in fear, knowing that You are always faithful.

To the Son:
Lord Jesus, You are the Rock that will never crumble. Thank You for being my Redeemer and for holding me when everything around me feels uncertain. I look to Your cross and empty tomb and see the eternal victory that cannot be shaken. Help me to fix my eyes on You, not on my circumstances. Give me the courage to endure the trials and storms of this world with the peace that only comes from Your presence. May I walk in Your strength and reflect Your love in all I do today.

To the Holy Spirit:
Holy Spirit, You are my Comforter and my Guide. Whisper truth into my heart when doubts arise and calm my spirit when I am unsettled. Fill me with Your wisdom, that I may discern what is lasting from what is fleeting. Empower me to live faithfully, bearing fruit that will endure through eternity. When I am shaken, remind me that You are within me, securing me in the love of the Father and the salvation of the Son. Lead me into a day where I trust fully in Your sustaining presence.

Thought for the Day

When the world shakes around you, cling to what cannot be shaken: the promises of God and the eternal Kingdom of Christ.

Thank you for beginning your day in God’s presence. May you walk in unshakable faith today, grounded in His eternal love and strengthened by His Spirit.
