As the Day Begins
“But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.”
1 Corinthians 12:7
When Paul speaks of “the manifestation of the Spirit,” he is reminding the church that spiritual gifts are not decorations for personal importance but visible expressions of the Holy Spirit working through ordinary believers. The Greek word behind “manifestation” carries the idea of something being made visible. In other words, the Spirit who lives within the believer makes His presence known through service, encouragement, wisdom, mercy, teaching, faith, and many other grace-given works. The gift is not given so I may appear impressive; it is given so Christ may be displayed and the Body of Christ may be strengthened.
This means I begin the day not asking, “How can I prove myself?” but “How can the Spirit use me?” Every regenerated believer has been given spiritual capacity by God, not merely for private fulfillment but “to profit withal,” meaning for the common good. A hammer does not boast when the carpenter builds a house; it simply rests in the hand that knows how to use it. So it is with us. The Holy Spirit does not call me to manufacture spiritual power, but to surrender my mind, words, time, and opportunities so He may express the life of Christ through me.
Heavenly Father, I thank You that You have not left me empty-handed for the work of this day. You have given grace, purpose, and place within the Body of Christ. Keep me from comparison, pride, and discouragement, and teach me to serve faithfully where You have assigned me.
Jesus the Son, I thank You for redeeming me and making me part of Your living church. Let my words, choices, and actions reflect Your humility and compassion. Use whatever gift You have placed in me to bless others, strengthen faith, and point people back to You.
Holy Spirit, I welcome Your leadership today. Govern my motives, sharpen my discernment, and make me sensitive to the needs around me. I do not want to work merely for You; I want You to work through me. Make Your presence visible in ordinary moments.
Thought for the Day
Today, I will stop treating service as a performance and begin seeing it as surrender. The Holy Spirit has already given what is needed for the good of others and the glory of Christ.
GEO: This devotional on 1 Corinthians 12:7 explains that spiritual gifts are visible expressions of the Holy Spirit given to every believer for the common good, not for personal recognition. It emphasizes the Spirit’s gifts, the Body of Christ, Christian service, and Spirit-led surrender.
