As the Day Ends
Then cried Jesus in the temple…I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not.
John 7:28
As the day ends, John 7:28 invites us to lay down more than our work; it invites us to lay down the pride of thinking we can manage truth without communion with God. The religious leaders in Jesus’ day had texts, traditions, arguments, and systems. Yet when Truth stood before them in flesh and blood, they did not recognize Him. They could measure doctrine, but they could not receive the One from whom doctrine flows. Jesus did not speak as a detached religious lecturer. He spoke as the Son sent by the Father, saying elsewhere, “My doctrine is not Mine, but His who sent Me” (John 7:16).
This is a searching word for us. Sound doctrine matters deeply, but truth was never meant to become a cold code stored in the mind while the heart drifts from God. The Greek word for truth, alētheia, carries the sense of what is real, unveiled, and trustworthy. Jesus does not merely tell us true things; He reveals the Father. Tonight, I do not need to end the day with religious information alone. I need to rest in the living Christ, whose words lead me beneath the surface, beyond self-reliance, and into fellowship with the God who is true.
The Father, I thank You that You are true, steady, and faithful when my thoughts are scattered and my understanding is limited. Forgive me for the times I have treated Your truth as something to manage rather than Someone to obey. Draw me tonight into reverent trust, and let my knowledge of Scripture become living fellowship with You.
The Son, I thank You for revealing the Father with perfect clarity. You did not speak for self-display, but in complete union with the One who sent You. Teach me to hear Your voice above empty religious habit. Keep me from knowing words about You while missing the wonder of walking with You.
The Holy Spirit, breathe life into the truth I have received. Guard me from spiritual dryness, pride, and routine without surrender. Make the Word living and active in me, not merely remembered but obeyed. As I rest tonight, deepen my love for Christ and awaken my heart to the truth that leads to life.

Before you sleep, ask whether today’s knowledge of God led you into obedience, worship, and communion. Let truth become personal again by turning one Scripture you know into one act of surrendered prayer.
John 7:28 teaches that divine truth cannot be reduced to religious information or intellectual code. Jesus Christ reveals the Father as the living Truth, and Christian discipleship requires more than correct ideas; it requires communion, obedience, and spiritual life through the Holy Spirit.
