Strength and Faith through Nehemiah

Praying the Word

Now therefore, our God, the great, the mighty, and the awesome God, who keeps covenant and steadfast love, let not all the hardship seem little to you that has come upon us, upon our kings, our princes, our priests, our prophets, our fathers, and all your people, since the time of the kings of Assyria until this day. Yet you have been righteous in all that has come upon us, for you have dealt faithfully and we have acted wickedly. Our kings, our princes, our priests, and our fathers have not kept your law or paid attention to your commandments and your warnings that you gave them. Even in their own kingdom, and amid your great goodness that you gave them, and in the large and rich land that you set before them, they did not serve you or turn from their wicked works (Nehemiah 9:32-35, ESV).

ADORATION

Heavenly Father, as I read Nehemiah’s prayer, I am reminded of your greatness and might. You are described as the great, the mighty, and the awesome God who keeps covenant and steadfast love. I praise you, Lord, for your unwavering faithfulness. You remain steadfast and true, never wavering in your promises. I worship you for your greatness, acknowledging your mighty power and the awe-inspiring nature of your works. Your faithfulness is a testament to your character, and I adore you for the love you continually bestow upon us.

CONFESSION

Lord, as Nehemiah confesses the sins of the people, I am moved to confess my own shortcomings. We have acted wickedly and not kept your law. I acknowledge my sins, both those I have committed and those I have omitted. Forgive me, Father, for the times I have neglected your commandments and ignored your warnings. Cleanse my heart and renew a right spirit within me, so that I may walk in your ways and honor you in all that I do.

THANKSGIVING

Gracious God, I thank you for your righteousness and faithfulness. Even as we have acted wickedly, you have dealt faithfully. I am grateful for your steadfast love that remains with us despite our failures. Thank you for the great goodness you have given us, for the rich and abundant blessings you provide. Your provision and care are beyond measure, and I am deeply thankful for your continual presence and grace in our lives.

SUPPLICATION

Lord, in Nehemiah’s prayer, he pleads for your attention to the hardship that has come upon your people. I trust in your strength and ask for your intervention in my own struggles and challenges. Grant me the wisdom and resilience to navigate these difficulties. Also, I pray for the strength to remain faithful to your commandments, even amidst trials. Uphold me with your righteous right hand and guide me in your truth.

CONSECRATION

Father, as I reflect on Nehemiah’s words, I see a call to obedience and faithfulness. Help me to keep your law and pay attention to your commandments. I commit myself to serving you faithfully, seeking to turn away from any wickedness and instead embracing your ways. Strengthen my resolve to live a life that honors you, even in the midst of your great goodness and blessings.

INTERCESSION

Lord, I lift up my community and nation to you, interceding on their behalf. Just as Nehemiah prayed for the leaders and people, I pray for our leaders and all those in authority. Grant them wisdom and guidance to lead with integrity and righteousness. I also pray for my church family, that we may remain faithful to your word and serve you with our whole hearts. May your Spirit move among us, bringing renewal and revival.

AMEN.
